EV Charger Jobs: What Sparks Need from Their Wholesaler

  3. EV Charger Jobs: What Sparks Need from Their Wholesaler

EV charger installs are no longer “nice extras”. For a lot of customers, they’re expected as standard. From driveways and small commercial car parks to full renewables setups, more jobs now come with a charging point somewhere in the spec.

When you’re on price or on site, the last thing you need is to be hunting around three different places to pull a kit together. That’s where a good wholesaler makes the difference.

Here’s what you should be able to rely on when it comes to EV charger jobs:

Cabling That’s Fit for Purpose

Cabling is one of the biggest talking points on EV installs – not just size, but routing, containment and future-proofing.

At SED, we can help you work through the practicalities:

  • Suitable cable types for the install environment, whether it’s surface-run, buried or clipped direct.
  • Cable management options so the run is safe, tidy and protected – trunking, tray, ducting, markers and more.
  • Enough length, glands and fixings to avoid those “nearly there” moments where you’re a metre short.

You still make the design and calculation decisions, but we’ll help make sure the gear you walk out with matches the job you’re actually doing.

Protection, Boards and Compliance

A lot of EV work involves tidying up or extending existing distribution. That’s where having the right circuit protection on the shelf really matters.

We can support you with:

  • Appropriate boards and enclosures when you’re adding dedicated EV ways.
  • Protective devices to suit the charger spec and the rest of the installation, in line with current 18th Edition requirements.
  • Surge protection, isolation and accessories that are easy to forget at the quoting stage but essential when you’re signing the job off.

If you need to talk through options for a specific manufacturer or charger type, our team is on hand to help point you in the right direction.

Mounting Options and “Everything Around the Charger”

The charger itself is only part of the story.

Depending on the job, we can help you with:

  • Wall-mount and post-mount options.
  • Ground fixings and containment for runs out to parking bays.
  • Labelling, signage and protection bollards where needed.

It’s often the supporting kit that slows a job down. Having a wholesaler who understands that and keeps the right gear available is half the battle.

Load Management and Add-Ons

More and more customers are asking about how EV charging fits in with the rest of their home or business load, especially when solar and batteries are involved.

While you handle the design, we can help source:

  • CT clamps, meters and accessories for load monitoring.
  • Control gear and switching devices.
  • Compatible components when you’re tying in with other renewables hardware.

If you send us a spec or parts list, we’ll work with you to build a complete materials package so you’re not juggling multiple suppliers.

Let SED Help You Build the Full Kit List

Whether it’s a single driveway install or a run of chargers on a small commercial site, SED is here to help you pull the whole job together – from cable and containment to boards, protection and accessories.

If you’ve got an EV project coming up and want a second pair of eyes on the materials list, give the team a shout – send the spec over, or call in and talk it through. We’ll help make sure you’ve got what you need on the van, first time.
