At SED, social value is not just a section on our website. It’s something we try to live out in the day-to-day. From supporting local community groups across Sefton to backing national causes close to home, we’re always looking for practical ways to help. Recently, that support took us to Altcar Training Camp and a project for veterans and reservists.
A simple request that made perfect sense
We were approached about an armed forces project at Altcar Training Camp that desperately needed a new cooker. The kitchen is used by veterans, reservists and others linked to the camp, and the existing kit had seen better days.
It was exactly the kind of request that fits with our commitment under the Armed Forces Covenant – recognising the value that serving personnel, reservists, veterans and their families bring to our communities and doing what we can to back them. So, we arranged for a replacement cooker to be supplied and delivered from our Bootle branch.
Delivered with a smile (and no more salads)
When the cooker arrived on site, it was accepted by Roly, who helps look after the project at Altcar. To say he was pleased is an understatement, he joked that he was “made up” because it meant he didn’t have to live on salads any more. It’s a light-hearted comment, but it says a lot. A proper cooker means hot meals, a welcoming space and somewhere people can sit together, eat together and talk.
As a local independent electrical wholesaler, we’re proud that something as simple as a cooker can make a real difference to the people who use Altcar Training Camp week in, week out.
